Wind Chill Tips
Anytime the temperature falls below 10 degrees, we will all experience temperatures and wind chills that our homes’ heating systems were NOT designed for.
A -10 to -15 degree outside temperature result in wind chills of -40 to -50 and lower.
Newer homes will struggle to maintain temperature and older homes will NOT maintain temperature and the temperature WILL drop while the heating system is working at full capacity.
We suggest the following to ensure optimal comfort:
- Please raise the temperature in your home when the outside temperature is 10° F or lower by 2 to 4 degrees.
- Take all Programmable Thermostats out of “setback mode” and set on permanent HOLD. The benefits that normally result from your programmable thermostat’s settings are offset by the extra work your furnace must perform.
- If you have a forced-air furnace, replace the filter.
- Keep garage doors closed as much as possible.
We hope these tips will ensure that your furnace continues to operate as efficiently as possible during extra cold outside temperatures.
